This year, our annual Christmas party at the Ronald McDonald House was again very well attended. We had three For a Day volunteers, Santa Claus, and one of Santa’s elves, as well as the newly crowned Miss Teen MN USA Gwen Buchanan, and her mother Anna. In attendance were approximately 20 children – 11 girls and 9 boys – as well as around 20 family members. This was a great turnout!
We set up a makeup and nail polish station, and Miss Teen MN USA and her mom handled all the traffic that came through. We also set up two crafts tables, where kids made snowmen, ornaments, and other fun Christmas themed gifts and keepsakes. The crafts station was the busiest of all. We also had a Santa station, in other words a couch, where kids lined up to sit with Santa and share their wishes for gifts. Ironically, Santa had been at an event just a couple days prior for pet pictures, and the store owner had been a Ronald McDonald House resident in the past. When she found out Santa was on his way to the Ronald McDonald House, she instructed Santa to get all the kids’ gift wishes and stated they would all receive their gifts by Christmas time. What a generous woman!!
We also had our infamous snowman making station, where toilet paper was used to wrap each other up. As with every other year, this station turned quickly into a fun station where kids just threw toilet paper around and made a big mess. They loved it!
Once again, this event turned out to be one of For a Day’s best attended and most successful of the year! We look forward to returning to the Minneapolis Ronald McDonald House soon!
